Says singer Bhoomi Trivedi, as she talks about her maiden performance in the city and what it means to break into Bollywood with a Bhansali filmTAKEN BY SURPRISE Singer Bhoomi Trivedi was pleasantly surprised by Patna during her first visit to the city. “This is my first visit here and I’m very happy to have been given the chance to perform here. I would like to thank the government of Bihar for inviting me and making me a part of their beautiful family,” says Bhoomi, who was a celebrity performer on the second day of the Bihar Diwas, which concluded in the city recently.
Talking about her experience in the city, Bhoomi says, “The audience was unexpectedly great. I had heard that the people of Patna are music lovers and have good knowledge of music, and they proved that right. There is a joke that
dulha, dulhan aur nariyal andar se kaisa nikalega yeh pata nahi. Kuchh aisa hi hua mere saath jab maine Patna waalon ke liye perform kiya. I began my performance with a patriotic number, followed by
Ram Chahe Leela and a few other Bollywood numbers. The audience was really sweet, and they responded quickly.”

My mother was earlier working as a teacher, but was actively involved in singing too. My father is in the Railways, but he sings as a hobby. He plays the flute and the mouth organ too. The environment at home was totally musical because of my parents’ love for it, and as a result, all the time I would be listening to music – while eating, sleeping and every waking moment. I was attached to music since childhood, so I was sure that I will become a singer one day. And now, here I am here, a singer,” she laughs.
THE TURNING POINT Bhoomi shot to fame after participating in the fifth season of Indian Idol, in which she emerged as the first runner up. “Participating in Indian Idol was one of the turning points in my life,” she says. Elaborating on her journey, she adds, “I got the opportunity to debut as a singer in Bollywood with
Ram Chahe Leela from
Ram Leela. It was Shail Hada, the music arranger for
Ram Leela, who called me to write some Gujarati lyrics and sing that part. I started penning it down and sang it. He then asked me to try out the song, which Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) sir liked, and so did his mother, Leela ma’am. I was really touched when Sanjay sir trusted my singing blindly and gave me a break, without me having any prior experience,” says Bhoomi.
MARRIAGE CAN WAIT Is Bhoomi facing the pressure of getting married? “There is no pressure as such.
Jin logon ko main pasand aati hoon, woh ghar aake poochte hain ki agar aapki beti ko shaadi karni hai, toh hum rishta bhejna chaahte hain. But honestly speaking, right now I’m not prepared for this because I only have place for music, my parents and my friends in my life.
Mere break-ups huye hain mere boyfriends se because I give more importance to my friends,” she smiles.
